Búzios & Paraty holiday highlights

Once just a small fishing village, the sophisticated beach resort of Buzios has grown to become one of Brazil’s finest coastal retreats and has been dubbed the ‘St Tropez of Latin America’. High-end restaurants, bars and clubs line the charming cobbled streets such as the picturesque Rua das Pedras and the resort offers a fabulous array of stylish boutique hotels. Browse the chic boutiques or relax at one of the vibrant cafés that are perfect for a spot of people-watching. Try a different beach every day, hit the surf for fun watersports or hike in the surrounding rainforest. You could also take a tour on the Búzios Trolley, discovering the history and geography of the area as well as visiting beaches and belvederes.

A gorgeous colonial-era city perfectly preserved with colourful heritage architecture and charming cobbled streets, Paraty is a perfect place in which to slow the pace right down. Wander the quiet avenues, many of which flood at high tide – a process apparently used to flush the streets clean, and explore the local beaches.

Brazil’s pousadas are rightly famed around the world and most destinations have an array of these charming boutique hotels. Akin to a British ‘Bed & Breakfast’, these gems are often family-run and housed within historic edifices in the oldest and best preserved sections of colonial cities, or away from the crowds on exclusive estates. In Paraty, and in Buzios in particular, these pousadas have taken on a style and design all of their own, becoming amongst the most desirable and fashionable hotels on the continent.
